LA Master Chorale: Eternity in an Hour

Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre joins the Master Chorale to conduct the West Coast premiere of his stunning and sublime new piece, Eternity in an Hour, a major work that premiered at the BBC Proms in late 2024. A musical meditation that features live electronics alongside Whitacre’s signature choral writing, the piece was inspired by the opening four lines of William Blake’s poem “Auguries of Innocence.” It is preceded by several brief works of Arvo Pärt, one of the most often performed living composers in the world, including The Beatitudes and Morning Star.

LA Master Chorale: Lightscape Activation

Lightscape considers our landscape of diversity, creating a vulnerable and humanistic portrait that chronicles the search to find one’s individuality in a world of continuous transformation. In this work, Aitken creates a modern mythology propelled by music, film, and architecture. It follows multiple characters in a Robert Altman–esque structure, taking us on a journey that explores a landscape in the midst of extreme change—from the deep ecology of vast deserts and desolate mountainscapes to futuristic robotics factories and the digital realm.
